Top 10 Signs You Are Dealing With an Idiot

“The Dilbert Principle: People are idiots.” - Scott Adams

My mentors have been drumming one particular item into my head for the past 14 years - Rule Number 1: "There is no dealing with idiocy".  I now know why this rule has been their number one mantra.

When you cannot have a decent conversation without someone interjecting and ascribing words or meanings to you that you neither said nor intended - that is idiocy and when faced with it, you must remember the axiom.  Ignore the person and the commentary and go about your business as usual.

If you do anything else you end up a victim to that force which keep the universe expanding at an accelerated rate.  You end up being sucked into the black hole through which energy exits the universe.

Follow up:

Just tonight, in fact, I was checking out a friend's facebook page when I saw he left a humorous posting about his thoughts relating to recent news events involving the Speaker of the House.  I responded with a joke and then got attacked by some moron who doesn't know history or current events.

It took exactly two exchanges with said moron for me to realize there was no point in further discussion.  I subsequently insulted this person beyond their comprehension and made it clear that the inanity of the situation was not worth my energy.

A few years ago I would have missed the signals that I was dealing with an idiot.  It is, therefore, my great pleasure to offer you the Top 10 Signs You're Dealing With an Idiot:

10) The person argues against his/her own point as if you were the one who said it.
9) The person repeats instructions you have just given and then performs in the exact opposite fashion
8) The person listens to your concerns and then repeats themselves as if saying the same sentence twelve times in a row will suddenly make you agree with them.
7) The person leaves their blinker on for miles upon miles upon miles...
6) The person cannot figure out who has the right of way at four-way stopsign
5) The person thinks religion is the same thing as politics
4) The person cannot determine the correct amount of change without the use of a calculator
3) The person is only able to see hypocrisy on the other side of the aisle
2) The person does not understand the platform of the other political party
1) The person starts speaking and all you can hear is the Charlie Brown teacher

Anyone exhibiting any of the aforementioned signs is an idiot.  Refrain from conversation or commentary with such people while their idiocy is in control.  If necessary it is perfectly acceptable to just walk away and leave them confused as to why you did so.

There are 7 billion people in this world.  98% of them will be idiots.  Remember not to let them get to you, because in the end... no matter how much time you spend talking, there really is just no dealing with idiocy.
